This is an illustration work exploring the inner world of marginalized groups, focusing on identity recognition and role conflicts of a transgender woman .
The protagonist Xin is a transgender woman who can only express her true self when wearing women's clothing. For her, women's clothing is not just apparel, but a vessel to reveal her authentic self and confidence.
In society, she can appear as a woman in safe spaces, seeking recognition and understanding. At home, to protect her young daughter from prejudice and discrimination, she has to wear men's clothing that she cannot accept, playing the role of a traditional father.
This division between social identity and family identity creates a profound inner struggle—while loving her daughter, she is also denying her true existence. The illustration uses contrasting techniques to showcase this identity transformation and differentiations and the difficult journey of seeking balance.
